After the birth of her children, she dedicated herself to being a homemaker, wife, and mother. She returned to the workforce after the unexpected death of her husband in 1966 and retired from the State of Mississippi as a caseworker for the Alcorn County Department of Human Resources. Due to declining health, she moved to Huntsville, AL in 2003 to be closer to her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dalton was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Dalton, Jr., and her sister, Beatrice Parker George. A child of the Depression; a full-fledged member of the Greatest Generation of WWII; a widowed, single, working-mom at age 41, a resilient survivor who always found a way to persevere.
